The Young Artist Competition is open to flutists from the age of 18-30 as of May 2025.
A preliminary recorded round is required. All applicants must have their videos submitted by 11:59 EST on March 1st, 2025, with an application fee of $25 due upon submission. All application fees are non-refundable. To celebrate our inaugural flute day, those applying to the Young Artist competition will have their Flute Day registration fee waived.
Young Artists must be current members of the flute club. Membership dues are $15 for students and $25 for the general public. The membership lasts until the end of the calendar year, unless created between November or December, in which they will be extended until the end of the following December.
All pieces that are written with accompaniment must have accompaniment. If needed, we can provide a list of accompanists; rates should be discussed with them directly. All decisions made by the judges are final.
If recording at home, please make sure you are recording away from loud background noise, including but not limited to fans, refrigerators.
Each piece must be in a continuous and unedited take. All pieces that are written with accompaniment must be recorded with accompaniment.
Please submit all files through the application portal as the following:
[YA Competition-Title of Piece, Last Name, First Name]
Memory by Chen Yi and Partita for solo flute in A Minor by JS Bach, I. Allemande and III. Sarabande (any edition, no repeats; ornamentation okay as seen fit by performer)
Sonata for Flute and Piano by Yuko Uebayashi, I. Lento and a contrasting piece of choice, no longer than 7 minutes.
